Khichadi

Serves 4
Ingredients:
  • 1 cup Moong dal
  • 2 cups Rice
  • ½ teaspoon Turmeric (Haldar) powder
  • 4 cloves (laving)
  • 1-inch piece Cinnamon stick (Taj) broken into bits
  • 1 teaspoon Mustard seeds (Rai)
  • 4 Whole Black pepper (Kala Mari)
  • 1 tablespoon Ghee
  • Salt to taste (1 teaspoon)

Note:
  1. Ratio of Moongdal and Rice should be 1:2.
  2. You should increase the other items as per taste proportionately.

Method:
  • Wash the Moong dal and rice in water for 4 to 5 times
  • Add 5 cups of drinking water into Moong dal and rice. Soak it for 30- 40 minute.
  • Prepare the tempering by heating Ghee, cloves, cinnamon stick, muster seeds, black pepper
  • Once sound starts coming, add tempering into Water, Moong dal and Rice
  • Add Turmeric Power and Salt
  • Boil it for 12- 15 minutes on medium flame Gas - 4 whistles.

How to serve
  • Serve it with Kadhi, Curd, butter milk or any Curry
  • You can also serve Papad, Onion, Garlic paste, Pickle as per taste
